This Children’s Book Review falls within the devotion theme for the week coincidentally. I was so pleased to find this message in a small board book at the Southern Baptist Convention earlier this month. Thinking pure and lovely thoughts isn’t reserved for adults only.Following Jesus’ instructions in Matthew 19:14, we know that the Lord welcomes the little children and wants them to sit at His feet learning about the kingdom of God just the same.
Based on Philippians 4:8-9, “Whatever is Lovely” by Susie Poole helps children to make good choices when they face difficult situations. Some things will make them afraid, sad, or feel hurt but instead of worrying and resorting to a bad attitude, they are encouraged to talk to God. In telling Him about their problems through prayer, they are no longer burdened by their troubles and they are able to go on thinking about things that are lovely, amazing and reassuring. They can then extend love and kindness to others, as they have received it.
I love the simplicity of the message in the book. It uses situations and problems that young children can relate to and tells them of a God who understands their problems. The book is the perfect size for toddler hands and attention span. It’s a wonderful addition to T.’s collection and a good car companion.
