I purchased The Beginner’s Bible, Timeless Children’s Stories by ZonderKidz for Ty shortly after he turned three. Prior to this year, he used short Bible stories and owned an Illustrated Bible for children, but it was not age appropriate. The Bible he owned previously was best suited for older children. Well, I decided it was time to get him a Bible that was his size and used words that he could easily understand, and whose illustrations were no different than what he was accustomed to seeing in other books. In choosing his Bible, I focused on ease of the stories, the illustrations and the length of each Bible story.
The Beginner’s Bible is written at the reading and understanding level of preschoolers. The stories are clear, child-friendly and they are no longer than a few pages. When we read the Bible at bedtime, Ty always asks for one more story, which leads to one more story… Reading two to three stories take on average 10 minutes or so. After we read several short stories, he is ready to pray and head to bed. His absolute favorites are “David and Goliath”, “The Sneaky Snake” and “Samson”. This children’s Bible is recommended for children between the ages of 4 and 7, but as with most early childhood materials, he is able to read and comprehend it. For families, looking for starter Bibles that are perfect for preschoolers, I highly recommend this wonderful book of Bible stories.
