Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words.
Fully relying on God begins with knowing who God is and knowing who we are in light of who He is. Our lives now redeemed through the power of the blood of Jesus Christ, we have a new hope and assurance. We also have the blessing of the Holy Spirit dwelling inside us.
Our new life is not made of a bed of roses however. The Bible teaches that in this world we will have trouble (John 16:33). But, praise be to God, Christ has defeated the world and while we are not free of the consequences of the fall until he returns, the Lord Jesus Christ sent us a helper. We do not walk alone. We will have heartaches, but we can fully rely on the Holy Spirit to help us.
His presence in our hearts soothes our troubled hearts and minds.
The Holy Spirit, our faithful companion, intercedes on our behalf to bring relief, strength and comfort to us in our painful tribulations. When our burdens become too heavy for us to even form words in prayer, the Spirit Himself intercedes for us with unspoken groanings, according to the will of God (Romans 8:26-27). As we fully rely on God for every need—physical and spiritual—we have the assurance that everything will work out for our good, as we are a chosen people who love the Lord and are called according to His purpose (Romans 8:28).
We are on the journey of a lifetime. Anyone who has journeyed from one destination to the next know there are experiences and moments in between destinations that we treasure and others that we would have never chosen to experience if we had the choice. Yet, the sum of it all makes the journey.
With God, we know that every moment, every joy and every sorrow in the in-between is predestined. Our obstacles serve a purpose and ultimately they will lead to our “good”, according to the will of God. And there is no better way to travel through this life than to be hid in the will of God, and to experience life according to the Lord’s purpose.
If you are experiencing groaning pains of any sort, have faith that though it may not seem like it now, God is working the situation out for your good. The people whom we desire to be are of the worth compared to the people God chooses for us to be. Be encouraged even in the pain, and remain steadfast. Pray for me, as I pray for you!
Fully rely on God and trust His process. Lean on your companion and yield to His voice, as it whispers to your heart what the will of God is for you in Christ Jesus.
Faithful Heavenly Father,
I thank You for the gift of the Holy Spirit. I thank You for loving us so much that You hear our cries when we call on You. I pray dear Lord that I grow more and more reliant on the guidance of Your Spirit. I pray that my own agenda decreases in my life, and that I listen as Your Spirit guides and teaches me according to Your will. Dear Lord, grow in me a willing heart; willing to listen and willing to obey You fully.
In Jesus’ Name,
